Plumbers install, repair and maintain piping, fittings and other plumbing equipment used for water distribution and wastewater disposal in private homes and commercial and industrial buildings. They work for plumbing contractors, in maintenance departments of various factories and other establishments or they may be self-employed. Tasks and functions include reading plans, drawings and technical specifications to determine the layout of piping, water supply and sewer and drainage networks, install, repair and maintain accessories and piping installations in residences and commercial and industrial buildings and prepare quotes, if necessary.
